The race for the IPL 2026 playoffs enters a decisive phase as the Mumbai Indians (MI) take on the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in a crucial encounter at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium. While Mumbai have already been eliminated from the playoff race after a disappointing campaign, Rajasthan still have their destiny in their own hands heading into the final league fixture.
The Royals arrive with momentum on their side following a dominant chase against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi once again stole the show with a blistering 93 off just 38 balls, while Dhruv Jurel calmly finished the chase. Rajasthan currently sit fourth on the table with seven wins from 13 matches and another victory would officially secure their place in the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians will be desperate to finish a frustrating season on a positive note in front of their home supporters. Despite having experienced stars like Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah, MI have struggled for consistency throughout the tournament. Their latest defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders officially ended their qualification hopes, but Hardik Pandya’s side still possess enough firepower to challenge Rajasthan in this high-pressure clash.
Wankhede Stadium Pitch Report
The Wankhede Stadium surface has traditionally been one of the best batting tracks in the IPL, and conditions are expected to remain similar for this afternoon encounter. The pitch generally offers true bounce and good pace, allowing batters to trust the surface and play their shots freely from the start.
Fast bowlers could receive some assistance with the new ball during the opening overs, especially through swing and seam movement. However, once batters settle in, scoring becomes significantly easier due to the quick outfield and relatively shorter boundaries. Spinners are unlikely to get much turn from the surface and will need to rely more on variations and accuracy.
The average first-innings total at the venue usually remains around the 180-190 mark, though teams batting well can comfortably push beyond 200. Since this is a day game, dew is not expected to influence proceedings, meaning conditions should remain fairly consistent throughout both innings. Captains winning the toss may prefer to bat first and put scoreboard pressure on the opposition.

Mumbai Weather Forecast
The weather in Mumbai is expected to remain hot and humid during the afternoon clash. Temperatures at the start of the match are likely to hover around 33-34°C, with humidity levels ranging between 65-70%.
Clear skies are forecast throughout the game, ensuring there is virtually no threat of rain interruptions. The sticky conditions, however, could test player fitness and stamina, particularly for fast bowlers during long spells under the sun.
Unlike evening matches at the Wankhede Stadium, dew is not expected to play a role because of the afternoon start. Overall, the conditions appear ideal for a full, uninterrupted high-scoring contest between two explosive batting sides.
