Fans Go Crazy As Tilak Varmas Stunning Century And Ashwani Kumars 4 Fer Guide MI To A Dominant Win Over GT

The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad witnessed a cricketing masterclass on Monday, as Mumbai Indians (MI) dismantled Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 30th match of IPL 2026. In a high-stakes encounter between the 6th and 10th ranked teams on the table, MI surged ahead with a clinical 99-run victory. The night belonged to the youthful exuberance of Tilak Varma and the lethal precision of Impact Player Ashwani Kumar, leaving the home crowd in a state of shock as the Titans were bundled out for just 100.

Tilak Varma dazzles with a fiery hundred against GT in first innings

Batting first, Mumbai Indians found themselves in early trouble. Kagiso Rabada’s triple strike removed Danish Malewar, Quinton de Kock, and the dangerous Suryakumar Yadav within the powerplay, leaving MI reeling at 44/3. However, Varma stepped onto the crease with a sense of destiny. Partnering first with Naman Dhir (45 off 32) and later with skipper Hardik Pandya, Varma orchestrated a recovery that soon turned into an all-out assault.

Varma reached his fifty in a steady 33 balls, but what followed was pure carnage. He shifted gears with terrifying ease, dismantling Prasidh Krishna and Ashok Sharma. The southpaw played a plagiarism-free brand of original cricket, finding gaps with surgical precision. Varma accelerated from 50 to 100 in just 12 deliveries, finishing with an unbeaten 101 off 45 balls. His breathtaking knock included 8 fours and 7 towering sixes, operating at a staggering strike rate of 224.44. Thanks to his late-overs explosion, MI posted a formidable 199/5 in their 20 overs.

Ashwani Kumar’s four-wicket haul powers MI to a crushing win over GT

Defending 200, Mumbai Indians unleashed their secret weapon. After Sherfane Rutherford’s brief cameo, MI utilized the Impact Player rule to bring in Ashwani, a move that proved to be a tactical masterstroke. The GT chase never found its rhythm, losing Sai Sudharsan to Jasprit Bumrah on the very first ball of the innings. When Jos Buttler fell for 5 to Pandya, the pressure became insurmountable.

While Washington Sundar showed some resistance with a 17-ball 26, the middle and lower order fell like a house of cards against Ashwani. The young seamer bowled with searing pace and deceptive movement, finishing with remarkable figures of 4/24 in 4 overs. Ashwani claimed the prized scalp of GT captain Shubman Gill (14) before slicing through the middle order, dismissing Rahul Tewatia, Shahrukh Khan, and Rashid Khan in quick succession.

Supported by AM Ghazanfar (2/17) and Mitchell Santner (2/16), MI’s bowling unit was relentless. Gujarat Titans were eventually skittled for 100 runs in 15.5 overs. The 99-run margin not only handed MI two crucial points but also provided a massive boost to their Net Run Rate as the race for the playoffs intensifies in IPL 2026.
