Fans Erupt As Noor Ahmad And Sanju Samson Power CSK To An Emphatic Win Against KKR

The atmosphere at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium was nothing short of electric this Tuesday, as the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secured a dominant 32-run victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 22nd match of IPL 2026. In a high-stakes encounter under the Chepauk lights, the ‘Men in Yellow’ showcased why they remain the team to beat, blending aggressive batting with a masterclass in spin bowling. The win not only delighted the home crowd but also solidified CSK’s standing in the mid-season points table.

Sanju Samson laid the foundation for a formidable total against KKR

After being put in to bat, CSK faced an early hiccup when skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad fell for just 7. However, the arrival of Sanju Samson shifted the momentum entirely. Samson played a quintessential anchor-aggressor role, smashing a blistering 48 off 32 balls, decorated with 5 fours and 5 towering sixes. His strike rate of 150.00 forced the KKR bowlers onto the back foot during the crucial middle overs.

Samson found an unlikely but effective partner in young Ayush Mhatre, who played a cameo that will be remembered for its sheer audacity. Mhatre’s 38 off just 17 deliveries (at a staggering strike rate of 223.52) ensured that CSK crossed the 50-run mark in just 3.6 overs. Despite Kartik Tyagi’s efforts to pull things back with 2 wickets for 35, the foundation laid by Samson allowed Dewald Brevis (41 off 29) and Sarfaraz Khan (23 off 18) to keep the scoreboard ticking. CSK eventually posted a daunting 192/5 in their 20 overs, a total that felt significantly above par on a gripping Chennai surface.

Noor Ahmed rips through KKR’s batting lineup to seal the win for CSK

Defending 192, CSK’s bowling unit executed their plans with surgical precision. While Anshul Kamboj provided the early breakthrough by dismissing Finn Allen for a duck, it was the Afghan spin sensation Noor Ahmad who truly broke the back of the KKR chase. Noor turned the game into a highlight reel during the 11th over, picking up the crucial wickets of Ajinkya Rahane (28) and Cameron Green (0) in consecutive deliveries.

Noor’s figures were a testament to his dominance: 4 overs, 21 runs, and 3 wickets, maintaining an economy of just 5.25 in a high-scoring game. He later added the scalp of the dangerous Rinku Singh (6), effectively ending KKR’s hopes of a comeback. Although Rovman Powell (31) and Ramandeep Singh (35) attempted a late-order resurgence with a 50-run partnership for the 7th wicket, the required run rate had climbed into the stratosphere. KKR finished their innings at 160/7, falling 32 runs short of the target.
