Kitzbuhel | Bautista Agut lifts his 11th trophy

Roberto Bautisa Agut proved too strong for local boy Filip Misolic as he swept the Austrian wild card aside 6-2 6-2 to claim the Generali Open title in Kitzbuhel for his 11th career title in 17 years as a professional.

I knew I was a little bit the favourite today, but he had so many good wins this tournament and I knew it was going to be difficult. I played a very good match Roberto Bautista Agut

The 34-year-old Spaniard, seeded three, broke Misolic’s serve twice in each set as he dictated play throughout the match, hitting a series of winners from deep and staying solid behind his own serve to secure, after 93-minutes, his second Tour crown of the season.

It was the Spaniard’s second tour-level title on clay and his first on the surface since his triumph in Stuttgart in 2014.

“It was a very long time since I won a title on clay,” Bautista Agut said. “It’s very special for me, because I’ve done a lot of good work on this surface.

“I enjoyed the final, I think I managed the pressure very well,” the veteran Spaniard added. “I knew I was a little bit the favourite today, but he had so many good wins this tournament and I knew it was going to be difficult. I played a very good match.”

His 20-year-old opponent had earlier retained his focus to reach his first Tour final by edging Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann after the pair’s rain-delayed semi-final clash resumed in the morning with the Austrian leading 1-0 in the third-set tie-break.

“I want to congratulate Roberto,” said Misolic, whose exploits this week in his homeland have lifted him 70 spots to No. 135 when the new rankings are released on Monday. “I have watched you on television [before] and to play here against you in the final is an honour for me.”

Bautista Agut, a former world No.9, will also see his ranking rise to 18.
