Beating 40-Year-Old Usyk Won’t Buy David Benavidez Immortality

David Benavidez might think beating Oleksandr Usyk punches his ticket to the Hall of Fame, but boxing fans will see right through it. Dragging a 40-year-old heavyweight down to 200 pounds gives him a famous scalp on his resume, not an automatic pass to greatness.

“I’m going to get [my respect] one way or another. Once I beat [Usyk], there’s no denying me my spot in the history books,” Benavidez claimed via Fight Hub TV.

That chip on his shoulder is blinding him to reality. Benavidez acts like everyone owes him adulation, but demanding respect while targeting a 40-year-old on a brutal weight drain is the exact definition of taking a shortcut.

Beating Usyk under these conditions proves nothing. Draining an older fighter down 20-plus pounds leaves him vulnerable, sluggish, and dry. When an elite volume puncher swarms a drained legend whose legs are gone by the fifth round, educated fans do not applaud. They write it off as an obvious cash-out mismatch.

History books remember who you conquered at their absolute peak. If Benavidez wants undisputed recognition, he has to run that exact fire line:

– Turn back Jai Opetaia at 200 pounds to settle who actually rules cruiserweight.

– Step into Daniel Dubois’ range and take flush heavyweight heat without blinking.

– Grind out Filip Hrgovic through grueling, foul-filled trench warfare.

– Risk getting sparked out by a vicious young phenom like Moses Itauma.

– Solve the tricky Cuban ring craft of Frank Sanchez without losing discipline.

That five-man run creates an untouchable resume. Beating an aged, depleted Usyk simply adds a famous name with an asterisk next to it. Until Benavidez trades the easy scalps for real danger, that chip on his shoulder is going to stay right where it is.

Before any of that happens, Benavidez has to get past WBC belt-holder Michal Cieslak on December 5 in Glendale with his WBA and WBO straps on the line.
