Australia Women and Bangladesh Women are set to begin their three-match ODI series on October 9 at Allan Border Field in Brisbane. The series will be played as part of the ICC Women’s Championship, with all three matches taking place at the same venue.
Australia Women head into the series in strong form and have won their last 11 bilateral ODI series. Tahlia McGrath will lead the side in the absence of regular captain Sophie Molineux, who is sidelined with a hip injury. Bangladesh Women, meanwhile, are preparing for their first-ever bilateral tour of Australia.
Australia have been one of the strongest teams in women’s ODI cricket and will enter the series with plenty of confidence. Tahlia has also been in excellent form, having recently smashed 154 off 137 balls for South Australia in the Women’s National Cricket League. The hosts possess considerable experience throughout their batting lineup, with Ellyse Perry and Beth Mooney expected to play important roles.
Ashleigh Gardner and Georgia Wareham add further all-round ability and spin options, giving Australia plenty of depth across departments. With all three ODIs being played at Allan Border Field, Australia will also have the advantage of familiar conditions.
Bangladesh will be aiming to make history during their first bilateral ODI tour of Australia. Nigar Sultana Joty remains the key figure in their middle order and will lead a side hoping to put up a stronger challenge away from home. The visitors got their first taste of Australian conditions in a tour match against Queensland Women on October 6. Bangladesh suffered a 72-run defeat via the DLS method while chasing a target of 269, giving them valuable preparation ahead of the three-match series.
Rabeya Khan and Marufa Akter will be among the players Bangladesh will rely on with the ball. They will face a major challenge against Australia’s experienced batting lineup, but the series provides an important opportunity for the visitors to test themselves against one of the world’s leading ODI sides.
