The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 witnessed a batting spectacle at the iconic Wankhede Stadium as Mumbai Indians produced a sensational run chase to defeat Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets in Match 47. After opting to bowl first, Mumbai were put under immense pressure by LSG’s explosive batting display, but a breathtaking opening partnership ensured the hosts chased down 229 in just 18.4 overs.
Lucknow Super Giants came out with aggressive intent and made full use of the batting-friendly conditions. Mitchell Marsh set the tone early with a quickfire 44, while Josh Inglis added a brief but impactful cameo. However, it was Nicholas Pooran who stole the spotlight with a jaw-dropping knock of 63 off just 21 balls, smashing eight towering sixes to dismantle the Mumbai bowling attack.
Despite a modest contribution from Rishabh Pant and a steady 31 from Aiden Markram, LSG maintained momentum through Himmat Singh’s composed 40. Their collective effort propelled them to a formidable total of 228/5 in 20 overs. Among the bowlers, Corbin Bosch stood out with two wickets for just 20 runs, while Will Jacks and Raghu Sharma chipped in with one wicket each.
Chasing a daunting target, Mumbai Indians needed a strong start—and they got something extraordinary. Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma tore into the LSG bowling attack, combining power with precision in a remarkable opening stand. Rickelton was in destructive form, hammering 83 off just 32 deliveries with eight sixes, while Rohit matched the intensity with a classy 84 off 44 balls.
Their partnership completely shifted the momentum, leaving LSG bowlers searching for answers. The duo’s fearless approach ensured that the required run rate never became a concern, turning what seemed like a challenging chase into a controlled pursuit.
After the departure of the opening pair, Mumbai still required quick runs, but the middle order ensured there were no late hiccups. Naman Dhir played a handy knock of 23 off 12 balls, while Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma made small but important contributions. Will Jacks added the finishing touch with a quick cameo as Mumbai Indians reached 229/4 in 18.4 overs.
For Lucknow, M. Siddharth was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, but the rest of the attack struggled to contain the flow of runs on a surface that heavily favored batting.
