Fans erupt as Jemimah Rodrigues’ sizzling ton guides India to Women’s World Cup 2025 final with thrilling win over Australia

In a night that will go down as one of the most iconic in Indian cricket history, India Women defeated defending champions Australia by five wickets to storm into the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 final. Led by a breathtaking century from Jemimah Rodrigues (127 off 114)* and a valiant 89 from Harmanpreet Kaur, India chased down a daunting 339-run target with nine balls to spare, sending the home crowd into delirium.

Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur script a golden chapter in Indian cricket

After Australia posted a formidable 338 all out, powered by Phoebe Litchfield’s stunning 119 and Ellyse Perry’s composed 77, India faced an uphill battle. The chase began on a shaky note, but the composure of Rodrigues and Harmanpreet soon turned the tide.

The pair built a magnificent 167-run partnership for the fourth wicket, mixing aggression with calculated risk-taking. Harmanpreet, leading from the front, played a fluent knock, rotating strike beautifully and attacking the Australian spinners with precision.

Once Harmanpreet fell for 89 off 88 deliveries, the equation got tense. But Jemimah, calm and determined, continued to anchor the innings, finding able support from Richa Ghosh and Amanjot Kaur. Her innings was a blend of elegance and temperament, marked by powerful drives and clever placement.

The winning moment came when Amanjot drove through the covers, sealing a famous victory for India. Jemimah sprinted towards her partner and wrapped her in a tight embrace as the entire Indian team charged onto the field. Smriti Mandhana, beaming with joy, was the first to join in as emotions spilled over both on and off the field.

India turn heartbreak into history

For years, Australia had been India’s biggest obstacle in major tournaments — from the 2017 World Cup final to the 2020 T20 World Cup summit clash. But on this night, in front of a roaring Navi Mumbai crowd, India turned the tables in emphatic fashion.

During the innings break, Litchfield had said Australia would have been happy with their total, and at one point, they looked set for 350-plus. However, India’s bowlers fought back admirably in the death overs, ensuring the target remained within reach. This win wasn’t just about a chase — it was about redemption, belief, and emotion. As the crowd waved the tricolour in ecstasy, several fans were seen in tears, overwhelmed by the magnitude of India’s triumph. With this victory, India set up a mouth-watering final clash against South Africa, to be played on Sunday.
