Colapinto OK after crash in testing

Franco Colapinto was assessed in the medical center and described as “OK” by his Alpine team after a crash during tire testing at the Hungaroring.

Pirelli ran two days of testing following the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, with Alpine one of four teams involved, also including McLaren, Ferrari and Racing Bulls. Colapinto was driving during the morning on the second day of the test and had been due to hand over to teammate Pierre Gasly for the afternoon session, but a heavy crash at Turn 11 – a 140mph right-hander – temporarily halted proceedings.

A spectator photo from Budapest showed the car facing in the wrong direction next to the barrier in the run-off area, with its right-hand side significantly damaged.

Colapinto has started seven races for Alpine so far this year – with a technical issue at Silverstone preventing him from doing so – since replacing Jack Doohan six rounds into the season. Both drivers have failed to score a point up to this stage, the only two not to achieve a top ten result so far in 2025.

Teams participating in the Pirelli program used test mules adapted to the sizes of the 2026 tire dimensions, which are 25mm narrower at the front and 30mm narrower at the rear. Pirelli reported the first day of the test had seen prototypes of next year’s C3, C4 and C5 compounds used.

Alpine was the only team scheduled to complete both days of the test, with Paul Aron having driven on Tuesday. Lando Norris and Liam Lawson had been in action for McLaren and Racing Bulls respectively on the opening day, while Wednesday featured Charles Leclerc also driving as Ferrari joins the test alongside Alpine.
