Deion Sanders reveals he had bladder cancer

Deion Sanders had a tumor in his bladder removed, he revealed alongside his medical team on Monday.

The Colorado football coach had been dealing with unspecified health issues of late, causing him to spend time away from the school and his team.

And in a press conference on Monday, Sanders shared that he is now cancer-free after being diagnosed with bladder cancer earlier this year.

Sanders’ doctor announced that the coach and legendary NFL player underwent a full bladder removal (and creation of a new one) to remedy the issue.

‘You were such a blessing,’ Sanders said to Dr. Janet Kukreja, who was sat next to him. ‘Guiding me to, taking me through, verbalizing every darn detail so that I can make an educated decision.’

According to Sanders’ medical team, the issue was discovered when he had a routine CT scan of his vascular system. The scan came back clean, however, the check led him to be referred to a urologist who ultimately discovered the cancer.

Sanders – who has now undergone 14 surgeries for various health issues since 2021 – added ‘the process wasn’t easy’ as he also referenced his son Shedeur’s fall during the NFL Draft.

Sanders had not publicly disclosed what he was dealing with prior to Monday

‘It was some scenes that you saw, all the bull-junk that transpired on Draft day – it wasn’t just that. It was just I knew, as well, I had a surgery coming up.’

Sanders revealed that he hadn’t even told his sons Shedeur and Shilo the specifics of his most recent health issue, as he wanted them to focus on making NFL rosters.

The 57-year-old, who added that he did tell his daughters and son, Deion Jr., told Shilo and Shedeur that something was wrong with his foot.

Back in 2022 and 2023, Sanders had surgeries on his leg and foot – which included the amputation of two of his toes.

In a recent video posted to his family’s YouTube channel, Sanders revealed in May that he had to make a will.

‘That’s not easy, at all, to think that you might not be there, but you want to make sure everybody is straight.’
