ENG vs IND 2025: Here’s why England and Indian players are wearing black armbands on Day 1 of Edgbaston Test

Why England and Indian players are wearing black armbands

Before play began, the Edgbaston crowd witnessed a heartfelt tribute from both teams. Players from England and India wore black armbands in memory of former England cricketer Wayne Larkins, who passed away on June 28.

Larkins, who represented England during the late 1970s and 1980s, was also a prominent figure in county cricket, having played for Northamptonshire and Durham. The black armbands were a mark of respect for the late batter, acknowledging his contributions to English cricket.

Toss and team updates: Jasprit Bumrah rested, England unchanged

England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and chose to bowl first on a surface that offered early movement. The hosts fielded the same playing XI that secured victory in Leeds.

With England leading the series 1-0, the second Test presents a crucial opportunity for India to draw level.
