A Manchester United legend believes that Ruben Amorim possesses a trait that could help him to become a success at Old Trafford.
Amorim is looking to transform United’s fortunes after succeeding Erik ten Hag as the club’s head coach.
There is much work for Amorim to do, with United currently in 13th place in the table, while they haven’t won the Premier League since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.
Amorim suffered his first defeat as United boss this week as his side were beaten 2-0 away by Arsenal.
Prior to that, Amorim had commenced his tenure with a draw at Ipswich, which was followed by victories against Bodo/Glimt and Everton.
United are back in action on Saturday evening with a home game against Nottingham Forest.
A Man United legend believes Ruben Amorim has a trait that could help him become a success
Nicky Butt, who spent much of his career at United and enjoyed much success at the club, believes that Amorim has the character to succeed.
According to Butt, that trait is something which Erik ten Hag lacked.
Butt told talkSPORT: ‘I think what you’ve got to have at that football club is character.
‘If you look at all the managers that come after Sir Alex [Ferguson], whether they’ve failed or not, they’re all people that can carry the club on their shoulders.
‘[Louis] van Gaal, [Jose] Mourinho, they’re big personalities, big characters.
‘Unfortunately for me I didn’t think Ten Hag had that character. I thought he was not good in interviews, he wasn’t great on TV, he seemed like he knew what he was doing on a coaching pitch but he didn’t transfer [that] onto a game.
‘And I think this guy now, Amorim, one thing I think he’s got is character.
‘Time will tell if he’s got what he needs to get Man United back up to the levels [they want] with the investment that’s going to have to go into the squad.’

Butt outlined the size of the task that Amorim faces and stated that it could be two years until United are capable of challenging for the Premier League title.
He said: ‘It’s going to be two seasons, it’s going to be two years.
‘It’s going to be four transfer windows until we get where we need to be and challenging [at] the top of the table.’
United produced an impressive defensive first half display against Arsenal but were caught out in the second period as Jurrien Timber and William Saliba scored following well-worked corner routines.
Amorim will hope that he is given sufficient time to put his own stamp on the club and recruit players that he feels will be able to push United forwards.
United are through to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup, where they will face Tottenham away, while they are currently in 12th place in the Europa League table and will face Arsenal away in January in the third round of the FA Cup.
