Hard-hitting Patriot made star WR want out ‘before I lose my (expletive) life’

A hard hit from Jabrill Peppers can apparently make opposing players reevaluate some things. That seemed to be the case for Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams.

In the new Netflix documentary series “Receiver,” Adams showed what can go through a player’s head after they take some big hits. Toward the end of the third episode, a clip shows Adams take a huge hit from Peppers during the Raiders’ Week 5 matchup against the New England Patriots this past season.

After taking the shot, Adams began to complain on the sidelines about the number of hits he’d taken.

“I gotta get the (expletive) out of here before I lose my (expletive) life,” Adams said late in the series’ third episode. “I’ve never been hit this many (expletive) times in my career. Every game I get (expletived) up.”

The clip highlighted Adams’ perceived unhappiness with the Raiders this past season as he worked with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and head coach Josh McDaniels. Both Garoppolo and McDaniels are former Patriots who had tough seasons.

The Raiders have since moved on from both Garoppolo and McDaniels. Garoppolo was benched for then-rookie Aidan O’Connell before leaving in free agency. McDaniels was fired midseason and replaced with Antonio Piece.

Adams commented on the struggles, saying that it’s part of the game and not finger-pointing at anyone.

“This year was a tough one, as far as some brutal hits that I had, a new offense and new quarterback in a different system and all those things. It can make it tough and it’s not finger-point or anything. That’s just how the game goes, sometimes.”

The hits seemed to be tough on Adams, but the Raiders did win that game. New England let their last chance slip away when Mac Jones was sacked for a safety in the closing minutes.

As for Peppers, he seemed eager to share a highlight of him lighting up an opposing player. Peppers shared the highlight on his Instagram story and suggested that fans may get to see more of the same this year as he heads into the final season of his contract with New England.

“Contract year, watch how I make some (expletive) shake,” Peppers wrote.
