🇪🇸 Barça scrape by against Real Sociedad but suffer additional injuries

Barcelona picked up three points on Thursday after a 1-0 win over Real Sociedad but suffered multiple injuries in the process.

Scorer: Aubameyang 11′

This clash between Real Sociedad and Barcelona was feisty right from kick-off and a packed Anoeta Stadium made their presence known to try and motivate Imanol Alguacil’s men.

And it worked for the opening minutes until a lapse in concentration saw the hosts turn over possession in the box and Ferran Torres met Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the back post for 1-0.

The former Arsenal man now has nine LaLiga goals from just eight starts continuing the narrative that his transition to Spain has been seamless.

Yet Barcelona couldn’t gain enough momentum to extend their lead meaning Real Sociedad kept themselves in the game.

Alexander Sørloth and Alexander Isak, in particular, caused issues that required Marc-André ter Stegen to stay alert. The duo combined late in the first half but the Swedish striker sent his attempt wide of the post.

The second half then started in the same manner and the hosts came out blazing but struggled to find their finishing touch. Two more efforts from Sørloth went wasted, Adnan Januzaj had another fall short and Ter Stegen was forced into a diving save.

Unfortunately for Xavi’s side the increased pressure resulted in multiple injuries. Ronald Araújo and Dani Alves were both forced off while Gerard Piqué and Jordi Alba were also limping.

In the end, the hosts will be upset not to have found the back of the net despite their dominance and 10 minutes of stoppage time while the visitors will be pleased to come out on top after a spirited performance.

The result means Barcelona moved up to second, 15 points behind Real Madrid with a game in hand, while Real Sociedad sit sixth.
